RARE VINTAGE RED SOX/JIMMY FUND/VARIETY CLUB BANK
Up for bid is this rare RED SOX baseball bank. Not only does it say RED SOX butit also says Jimmy Fund and Variety Club. It is from an estate sale so I don't knowmuch about it. It was made by the Harris & Novelty Co. in Boston. There is no date on it. Also written in very small print is T.L.Bostica.On one side it says Red Sox another side says The Variety Club and 2 sides say "JIMMYFUND". Under that it says childrens cancer research. It is made of composition and isabout 7 in. tall, 18 in.around and the base is 4 1/4 in. with a cardboard bottom.The Jimmy Fund was started in 1948 to raise money for patient care and to fight againstchildrens cancer. Einar Gustafson was the original "JIMMY" . When he was 12 years old hewas a patient of Dr. Sidney Farber, (founder of the Childrens cancer research foundation).They called him Jimmy to protect his privacy.
