SWORD ANTIQUE MILITIA 1890 GRANVILLE GRAY'S

This is a very nice antique presentation sword from 1890. The blade from handle to tip is 31", the applied decoration on the scabbard is brass, as is the handle guard, top of handle, presentation plate and other trim. The scabbard is in good condition, with the expected diminishment of the silvered areas due to age. I did not try to clean the sword and I am sure it will polish up nicely if you so desire.There is some very slight rust haze in very few areas of the blade. This would be easily removed. The handle is wrapped with a beautiful beaded material that looks like little pearls. The blade is etched with a beautiful design on both sides. The inscription on the folding presentation plate says, "CAPT. W.A. BOBBITT, GRANVILLE GRAY'S, FEB. 10, 1890". I do not know for sure if he served in the Civil War or not. The blade has the name of the sword maker. I believe it says "PETTIBONE BRO'S". The overall length of the sword in the scabbard is about 39".
